Donald Trump would make 'exception' for Sadiq Khan

Presidential hopeful Donald Trump has said the newly elected mayor of London would be an "exception" to his proposed ban on Muslims travelling to the US.

Because of his faith, Sadiq Khan had expressed concern that he would not be able to visit the US if Mr Trump were elected.

Mr Trump proposed a ban on Muslims entering the US after attacks in Paris killed 130 people last year.

"There will always be exceptions," the Republican businessman said.

The temporary ban has been widely criticised in the US and abroad but Mr Trump has stood by the proposal, saying it is needed to ensure US security.

Mr Trump said he was "happy" that Mr Khan would be leading London.

"If he does a good job and frankly if he does a great job, that would be a terrific thing," he added.

Mr Khan - the son of Pakistani immigrants - is London's first Muslim mayor, after beating Conservative rival Zac Goldsmith for the Labour Party by 1,310,143 votes to 994,614.

"I want to go to America to meet with and engage with American mayors," Mr Khan told Time magazine. "If Donald Trump becomes the president I'll be stopped from going there by virtue of my faith."

He added that he was "confident that Donald Trump's approach to politics" would not prevail in America.

The story of Late Mrs Ronke Shonde as it happened....

Mrs Ronke Bewaji Shonde, a mother of two was beaten to death by her husband on the morning of May 6th 2016 inside their home at Tiemo Crescent off Awori street in Egbeda area of Lagos state, Nigeria.

Ronke and her husband had a fight in the early hours of the morning at their home while their kids were sleeping.

One neighbour later said he heard the noise coming from their flat early that morning but didn't think it was something horrific going on in the home.

At about 7am, the couple's nanny came to the house to resume work only to find the house locked and no one was opening the door. She tried to call her madam but her phone was switched off.

She peeped through the window only to find the couple's 6 and 4 year old kids crying and saying they couldn't wake their mum up.

By this time, neighbours had also gathered and they forcefully opened the door only to find Ronke's lifeless body on the floor, blood gushing from her head.

The husband, Lekan Shonde, was nowhere to be found.
Ronke's phone was also missing.

Shonde had ran away with his wife's phone and had locked the kids with their dead mother in the house before taking off.

Ronke's body has since been deposited at the mortuary and investigation is ongoing.
She was in her mid-30s.

According to family friends, Ronke suffered domestic violence in her husband's hands for many years but refused to leave the marriage.

So sad she had  to lose her life for the madness to end... Quite sad indeed!

Prince Harry has criticised what he has described as "incessant" intrusions into his private life. 

He was speaking in a BBC interview to mark Sunday's opening in Florida of the Invictus Games, a tournament for injured service personnel and veterans, which he launched two years ago. 

Prince Harry said the line between his public and private life had become almost non-existent.

"Everyone has a right to privacy," he told the Andrew Marr programme. 

He added: "Sadly that line between public and private life is almost non-existent any more. 

"We will continue to do our best to ensure that there is the line." 

Harry went on to say he and other members of the Royal Family were "completely aware that we are in a very privileged position". 

"I will spend the rest of my life earning that privilege and trying to bring a spotlight on to things and causes that really matter to me, and hopefully matter to other people as well.

"Everyone has a right to their privacy, and a lot of the members of the public get it, but sadly in some areas there is this incessant need to find out every little bit of detail about what goes on behind the scenes. It's unnecessary."

He said that his private life had to be private, and he hoped people would respect that.

The prince also described the Invictus Games as a popular cause.

"These are people that put their lives on the line, their whole families sacrifice their lives essentially for service of their countries," he said.

"No matter what nation they're from... it's not just the individuals, it's their families as well who give so much to service, not knowing when they're going to be sent away, not knowing how they're going to come back, and not knowing who they're going to serve with. 

"And whether they believe in the cause or not, you sign up, that's your job." 

The Invictus Games, which are a Paralympic-style event for injured servicemen and women and veterans, officially begin in Orlando on Sunday.

The opening ceremony will be attended by First Lady Michelle Obama and will feature Hollywood star Morgan Freeman, British singer James Blunt and soprano Laura Wright.

The five-day tournament will see more than 500 athletes from 15 countries compete in a range of sports.

Harry is patron of the Invictus Games Foundation, which oversees the delivery of the Games and their legacy.

The Andrew Marr programme will be broadcast at 09:00 BST on BBC One on Sunday 8 May.

The UK has 10 universities in the top 100 of the world's best when it comes to global reputation, but many have slipped down the rankings this year.

Cambridge and Oxford remain in the top five, at fourth and fifth place respectively, but both have moved down two places on their 2015 ranking.

The US dominates the Times Higher Education (THE) reputation rankings, with Harvard and MIT in top places.

Asia has 17 universities in the top 100 - up from 10 in last year's rankings.

The highest rated Asian universities are the University of Tokyo in Japan in 12th place and China's Tsinghua University in 18th place and Peking University in 21st place and the National University of Singapore in 26th place.

These are rankings based on reputation and perceived status, based on the opinions of an international panel of academics.

These are separate from the university rankings based on research and teaching quality.

Three London universities stay in the top third of the reputation table - Imperial College London at 15, University College London at 20 and the London School of Economics and Political Science at 24 - but each has fallen slightly on last year's ranking.

University of Edinburgh (38th), King's College London (43rd), University of Manchester (joint 49th), London Business School (between 81st and 90th) and University of Warwick (between 81st and 90th) also made the top 100 global reputation ranking.

The University of Bristol and Durham University have fallen out of the top 100, bringing the UK's total number of universities in the rankings to 10 for 2016 - down from 12 last year.

'Diminishing performance'

THE rankings editor Phil Baty said the UK had lost ground this year. 

"Even the country's most prestigious institutions have slipped, with the universities of Cambridge and Oxford each dropping two places to fourth and fifth place respectively," he said.

"The UK's diminishing performance occurs as institutions in Asia rapidly rise up the table - the continent has 17 representatives, up from 10 last year."

Mr Baty said cuts to higher education funding and a series of immigration measures affecting overseas students were "starting to have an impact" on the UK's global reputation. 

"The UK will have to ensure that it can still draw in talent and investment from across the world and it does not lose its position at the heart of higher education's global elite," he added.

'Asia snapping at heels'

Dr Wendy Piatt, director general of the Russell Group of leading universities, said the UK had some of the very best universities in the world, but it was "no time to rest on our laurels". 

"These rankings can be seen as a warning that the rest of the world is catching up with us and Asian universities, in particular, are snapping at our heels. 

"We risk losing out on further business and overseas funding unless there is greater investment in our world-class universities and a more risk-based, proportionate approach to regulation.

"Our key international competitors recognise that world-class universities are central to their success."

Gary Lineker should keep his promise and present Match of the Day in his underwear, Prime Minister David Cameron has said.

The former England footballer joked back in December that he would present the show "in just my undies" if Leicester City won the Premier League.

Leicester East MP Keith Vaz asked Mr Cameron if the pundit should keep his promise after the club's triumph.

The prime minister replied that he "absolutely" agreed he should.

Mr Vaz was wearing a Leicester scarf in the Commons for the second day running when he asked about Gary Lineker's underwear during Prime Minster's Questions.

He said: "During this amazing season the local Leicester hero, Gary Lineker, thought the idea of Leicester winning was so farfetched that he said if they did win he would present Match of the Day in his underwear.

"As an Aston Villa supporter, and my commiserations to the prime minister on their season, does he agree that in politics as well as in football, when you make a promise you should keep it?"

The Man United assistant Manager, Ryan Giggs, ends marriage....

The end has come to the marriage of the Manchester United assistant Manager- Ryan Giggs.
This occurred recently after his wife - Stacey 37 found out he has been flirting with the waitresses in his own restaurant.

The pair were said to be living in the same house but have parted for over three months.

The Manchester United Legend and assistant Manager-Ryan Giggs 42, admitted "It is over for good".
